I am going to into the 9th grade next year. I am thinking about doing an exchange program for my 10th grade. What are the good, safe, reliable long-term student exchange programs? It would be GREAT if there is any chance of getting a scholarship. I live in mongolia. Plus, please tell me the total amount of money you invested in your past experiences. =)

Look up your local Rotary Club. They have a great international exchange program. It's free, all you pay is the plane ticket and your own personal expenses during the year. Actually, the Rotary Club where you go will actually give you a small monthly allowance! I went from USA to Argentina 2003-2004. It was an amazing experience. You should try it!

Hi! I'm going to Japan with AFS during the 2011-2012 schoolyear! AFS, ASSE, YFU, and Rotary are probably the best exchange programs. AFS, ASSE, and YFU are run similarly, and you're likely to get your first choice of country. They are a bit expensive, but they offer several scholarships and encourage you to fundraise. Rotary is run a bit differently and it's not too common to get your first choice of country, but it is very affordable and safe as well. I included all the websites in my sources. Most people do their exchange in 11th grade. You'd be more mature. Many programs won't even consider you until you are 16 or whatever. Check out CSIET. They have a list of the top programs in the US for students to go abroad. All the best programs, the good, safe, reliable ones, are listed there. Wait! You live in MONGOLIA??? I don't know if they would be of much use to you...but try anyway! They need people to come here, too! Some of those programs are pretty wide networks, so, go that route to start.

Some good prorams that you could check out are Rotary, AFS, and YFU. Rotary is the cheapest, but also the hardest to get into. The main difference of Rotary is that you may not get to pick your country and you stay with multiple host families. Unfortuantely, it is too late to apply for Rotary for next year. http://www.rotary.org/en/StudentsAndYout... AFS is also one of the best. They have a great reputation. I am going with them and they are super helpful. It is a bit expensive (mayb 11,000 dollars) but there are lots of scholarships. Also, it is easier to get in, and it is more likely that you will get your first choice country (Japan). It is also a bit cheaper to begin with and a tiny bit easier to get in. They also have a pretty good repuatation.
