There are allot of rumors going around in the town I live in, in mongolia, and every one is saying that America is going to become socialist soon!? How is this a fake post? Not soon. The process have been gradually occurring over the last 80 years with an increase in speed in the last 20 years. I expect revolution before it goes to far though. Some of us simply won't stand for it.

No, America is not becoming socialist. There are some things the government has been doing that may seem socialist, but the United States is certainly not socialist. Far from it. Our new president-elect, Barack Obama is generally a liberal person, and leading up to the election, the opposition (Republicans), were often saying that he's a "socialist" to make people afraid of voting for him (most Americans are against socialism). Barack Obama is not socialist, and obviously the majority of people in this country didn't fall for that lie, but you will still hear some of his critics saying it. The fact is, the majority of people who call him socialist, don't even know what socialism is. He does want to expand many social programs and he wants to slightly taise taxes on the rich, which is a liberal thing to do, but it's not socialism. The U.S. is a capitalist Federal Republic, but there are also many socialist aspects of the country.

Well America has had progressive taxation since the 1860s (and it is currently a lot less progressive than it used to be) America has had social security since the 1930s America has had a health care safety net since the 1960s So if we are "becoming socialist" it is a process that has been going for nearly 150 years.

America is already a mixed capitalist.socialist state. About 90% as much as Canada. The only difference is that in the USA, socialized medicine (Medicare and the VA) only cover about 30% of the population where Canada covers 100%. But with the US government buying so much into the banks, yes, it is socialist now.

I fear that zenmeister is right.When I read posts here, as I did earlier this fall, where people were actually SERIOUSLY saying that paying taxes was patriotic, I was, to say the least, dismayed. I think we're being softened up. I say 30 years, and I wish I were as optimistic as Skitter.

What a weird question Ofcourse the United States wont be socialist. They spent their whole life and their money to ward the world of the treachery of socialism, communism. Now if they become socialist, the military, the army , the navy would interevene and say, No we dont want the Red Bastards in America.
