They're still alive and kickin'. You have to keep in mind that they are being locked in between Russia and China. This means they had about half of century of communism in their country. And since there aren't many of them, although they have a big country, this means they have a lot to do there. Since you're asking this question in the Military forum, I assume you'd like to know how is their army? Well, the days of Genghis-Khan are long gone. Still, with that whole lot of territory, they have quite a problem with robbers and smugglers hiding in the mountains. Also, a small unit of Mongolian troops (either one platoon, or one company) is serving as guard unit in Iraq, Divanniya Base - Multinational Division North-East. I've read in a magazine recently that they are highly respected there, for they are brave, watchful and very patient guards when on-duty (and they have proven already that they are excellent marksmen and don't loose their nerve in combat) - and cheerful, genuine companions when off-duty.

I had the chance to go in Mongolia and I can tell you that people do live there and there is still a lot going on. I think we don't hear from it just like we don't from many other countries -- do we ever hear of Ouzbekistan, Nepal, Slovenia, Togo, etc? When our own country doesn't feel concerned about what's happening in these countries, the medias don't talk about them. If you would like to know more about Mongolia, just make a search on Google -- type keywords like Mongolia news, Mongolia culture, etc. depending on which topics you're interested in -- and you'll find a lot. If you are interested in my personal experience in Mongolia, just write me and I'll be glad to answer all your questions.
